ASLA San Diego Chapter honored Urban Arena with a Multifamily Merit award for our work on the Townsend, a 5.3-acre mixed-use community in Mission Valley.
The project transformed a former Lincoln dealership into a vibrant space with courtyards, live-work units, retail, and a public “Grandstand” connected to an MTS bus stop.
Drawing on the site’s industrial past and flood-related elevation challenges, the design emphasizes form and space through varied materials.
Southwest-facing courtyards like the “Sit” Dog Park, Terrace, and Aqua Deck, along with inviting terraced steps, create dynamic community spaces. This project, in collaboration with The Dinerstein Companies and TCA Architects, showcases innovative urban infill design.
