Recently completed in San Diego’s Bankers Hill, Pa Recently completed in San Diego’s Bankers Hill, Park Summit pairs contemporary residential design with a collection of thoughtfully designed amenities for residents. Urban Arena provided landscape architecture for the project, creating elevated spaces that extend daily life outdoors and take advantage of the building’s expansive city views.

The rooftop terrace is anchored by a pool and spa and includes shaded lounges, outdoor dining and grilling areas, fire features, and integrated planting. A combination of paving, furnishings, planting, and overhead structures organizes the deck into distinct settings for relaxing, dining, socializing, and recreation.

The landscape complements JWDA’s contemporary architecture through a restrained material palette and carefully layered planting that bring warmth, texture, and scale to the rooftop environment. The result is a polished, welcoming amenity setting that feels both refined and comfortable for everyday use.

Completed in 2021, Modera San Diego brought 368 re Completed in 2021, Modera San Diego brought 368 residences and a layered collection of outdoor spaces to the heart of East Village. Urban Arena provided both Landscape Architecture and Architecture, creating a cohesive project shaped by the neighborhood’s industrial history and evolving urban character.

The landscape design extends daily life outdoors through two landscaped courtyards and a rooftop amenity deck designed for gathering, dining, recreation, and relaxation. A custom ¡Salud! bar and culinary station, outdoor kitchens, fire pit lounges, gaming lawns, pool and spa areas, and flexible social spaces create a range of experiences within a dense downtown setting.

The project also extends beyond the property line through its contribution to the 14th Street Promenade. Along the K to L Street frontage, a narrow sidewalk and parallel parking zone were reimagined as a 32 foot wide, tree lined pedestrian greenway and public open space. This helped advance the larger vision for a more connected and walkable East Village.

Throughout the project, the landscape pairs an industrial inspired material palette with planting, shade, seating, and flexible gathering spaces. The result is an environment that feels rooted in East Village while supporting contemporary urban life.

Modera San Diego was recognized with a 2022 ASLA San Diego Merit Award for Residential Landscape Architecture, reflecting the project’s balance of creativity, functionality, and public realm impact.

At the heart of the 62-acre Wagon Wheel Town Squar At the heart of the 62-acre Wagon Wheel Town Square community, Wagon Wheel Park provides 2.3 acres of public open space designed around how a neighborhood gathers, plays, and connects.

Completed in 2023, the park serves more than 1,250 surrounding homes with open turf, shade-covered tot lots, sand volleyball, gaming areas, shaded picnic spaces, and flexible areas for community events. Adjacent restaurants and entertainment spill into the park, making it an active extension of the neighborhood and a central gathering place for the community.

One of the project’s key design challenges was integrating required emergency access without allowing a roadway to define the park experience. The fire lane was transformed into a pedestrian promenade, creating a seamless connection through the park to adjacent residential courtyards and amenities.

The design also carries pieces of the site’s history forward, preserving elements of the original Wagon Wheel landmark and giving them a place within the next chapter of this iconic Oxnard site.
The result is a community-centered landscape that connects past and present while creating a lasting public space for gathering, recreation, and everyday life.

Set on a 1.6 acre hillside overlooking the Pacific Set on a 1.6 acre hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this custom luxury residence demonstrates how landscape architecture can become a seamless extension of the home itself. The landscape transforms the site’s dramatic topography into a series of connected outdoor spaces that embrace the ocean views while creating places to gather, entertain, and unwind.

Expansive terracing, retaining walls, and generous stairways shape the natural grade into a sequence of outdoor rooms, each with its own identity while remaining connected through a cohesive architectural language. From the dramatic entry experience to the infinity edge pool and spa, outdoor kitchen, artistic fire features, and Victorian style greenhouse with raised garden beds, every space was thoughtfully designed to elevate everyday living while complementing the home’s contemporary architecture.

A refined palette of interlocking concrete pavers, porcelain paving, natural stone, decorative rock, custom pool coping, and architectural walls is paired with sculptural boulders and a restrained planting design that reflects the surrounding Southern California landscape. With more than 60% California native species, the landscape balances sustainability with timeless design, creating a setting that feels both refined and deeply connected to its coastal environment.

The result is a landscape that celebrates the site’s natural beauty while seamlessly blending architecture, craftsmanship, and the surrounding landscape into a cohesive outdoor living experience.
